G’day,

I’m
Nourished Nick

I see food as fuel and understand that what I eat has a noticeable effect on how I feel physically and mentally, as well as my overall health. I plan ahead to make sure I have a wide variety of fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes, dairy foods and lean meats on hand. Although I love bangers and mash, I always add extra greens to my plate and hold back on the salt shaker. I’m mindful about my portions and limit foods containing saturated fat, added salt and added sugars.

What are the benefits of getting nourished?

Eating the recommended amount of the right foods can help lower your risk of many diseases and even early death. Fuel up with nourishing food for these big benefits…

How do you become a Nourished Nick?

Serve up the habits that will help you eat better and live longer.

Eat your veggies

Eat your veggies

Nine out of 10 Australians don’t eat the recommended serves of vegetables each day. Start by adding colourful veggies to each meal and work towards hitting your six serves.

Nick’s helpful hint

A serve of veg looks like half a cup of cooked green or orange vegetables, one cup of leafy or raw salad, half of a potato or a whole tomato.

Stay hydrated

Stay hydrated

Your body is mainly made of water, and it needs water to function properly. Men should be downing 2.6L per day.

Nick’s helpful hint

Keep a water bottle on hand and refill it throughout the day.

Focus on fats

Focus on fats

Choose foods with “good” unsaturated fats, limit foods high in saturated fat and avoid “bad” trans fat.

Nick’s helpful hint

You can reduce your intake of "bad" fats by steaming instead of frying, replace butter with olive oil, opt for lean meats and avoid baked, fried and fast food.

Nick’s helpful hint

Swerve unnecessary stuff

Swerve unnecessary stuff

Around one-third of our energy intake comes from unnecessary foods that have high levels of sugar, unhealthy fats and salt, like pies, chips, ice cream, chocolate and sugary drinks.

Nick’s helpful hint

Take note of how often these feature in your diet and try to limit them to sometimes and in small amounts.
